On2019.12.24, the Ministry of Education announced the first national-class undergraduate majors, the major of the science of information and computing of our school of mathematics won the title.

The first undergraduate students majoring in the science of information and computing came in 1999. In 2008, the major was recognized as a provincial special major. Following the core value of education of the Hefei University of Technology, the major roots deeply in mathematics, and meanwhile introduces relevant courses in computer science, in order for embracing the information age, in particular closely following the trend of the science of Big Data and AI. Such kind of an interdisciplinary major, not only laid the students a solid foundation in math, but also open up opportunities for the students to solve real problems, which establishes the uniqueness of the major.

Our teaching faculties all have PhD degree and most of them have education background in both mathematics and computer sciences, making a strong team. Up to now, 28 grants from NSF of China have been awarded to the team which provides 100,000+ RMB per faculty on average. In order for improving students’ ability in solving real-world problems, we cooperate with many enterprises which provide students with intern opportunities for visits, communication and learning. Meanwhile, our students have good performances at various provincial level or above contests, showing high degree of creativity. Witha clear position and deterministic goal, the major prepares the students for real-world careers, leading to 97% success in securing a job, including pursuit of graduate education at home and abroad. Our students have outstanding good reputation across the industries.

The “Shuang-Wan Plan” for national-class undergraduate majors launched in 2019 by the Ministry of Education aims at improving undergraduate education and enhancing the capacity of cultivating future talents. From now on, our school will be embracing this opportunity and playing our leading role with the national-class major in all aspects such as major transform, course planning, teaching resource and faculty management, hoping to bring the quality of our education to a higher level.
