Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the first national-class undergraduate courses, among which the course of Advanced Mathematics led by Prof. Shixin Zhu was awarded “National Class Offline Course”. This represents a big step forward regardingcourse development of our school of mathematics.
Advanced Mathematics is a fundamental course with the most hours and breadth. Since the beginning of the university, this course has been mandatory for all majors. Therefore, its quality plays a key role in the quality of our education. In Dec. 1994, the course of Advanced Mathematics was concluded to be a university-wide excellent course according to an evaluation by experts. This was validated again in May 1999. In 2004, the course was recognized as a provincial excellent course while the course was recognized as a national excellent course in 2008. In 2013, it was listed in the first national excellent courses for sharing. In 2019, the corresponding MOOC was put online, and attracted more than 40,000 students to enroll in the very first year. The first textbook for Advance Mathematics with digital characteristics was published by the Higher Education Press in 2014 and in 2020 for the 2ndedition. Our team for Advanced Mathematics has also published a textbook included in the national 11thfive-year plan.
Transform of teaching and construction of courses have been key tasks in our school of mathematics. The success of winning the title of national-class course for undergraduates represents a new level of our school in course development. With this honor as a start, we will be carrying out the model role of the national-class course, towards enhancing all aspects in our education services.
